kittens are loved and socialized with Miniature Dachshunds that i ahve shown and bred for 28yrs also, other cats and kids. 
Are wonderful breed that is nearly if not totally non-shedding/non-allergenic due to the REX GENE.
 
this is NOT your ordinary cat,....
they are not opposed to wearing shirts or sweaters in the cooler weather if they have the shorter coat type.

they will be ok alone but consider getting two to keep each other company while your busy or at work.
